P-300 New Game! Valls 1809: Battle of the Goi Bridge

We’re thrilled to announce a new title from Marc Aliaga that’s a perfect fit for the Neva Wargames P-300 System!

For fans of Napoleonic games, this new title won’t disappoint. It’s a quick, straightforward game based on a historic clash in Catalonia—easy to learn, yet a true test of your tactical skill.

We’ll be showing off this exciting title at the upcoming Pax LĂşdica wargame convention in Cádiz the first weekend of October.

What’s most important is that this title is in the final stages of development. We are preparing to open up final playtesting and proofreading before we send the final files to the printer. Expect to see this game on your table soon.

Artwork is currently being created by Nils Johansson, bringing the game to life.

The French defeat at the Battle of Bailén (July 19, 1808), which saw an entire army corps surrender, was a shocking blow. It forced the Napoleonic troops to abandon Madrid and retreat to the Ebro river, marking a spectacular failure for the first French invasion of Spain.

In response, Emperor Napoleon I decided to intervene directly, leading an army of his best troops. In November, General Gouvion Saint-Cyr entered Catalonia with about 22,000 men. After defeating Spanish troops at Cardedeu, he reached Barcelona on November 17, lifting the city’s blockade.

Shortly after, Saint-Cyr demonstrated his tactical prowess at the Battle of Molins de Rei, where he again defeated the Spanish forces. Despite the French victory, the Spanish troops managed to escape before being completely surrounded and captured.

After these two successive defeats, the Swiss general Teodor Reding took command of the Army of the Right. He reorganized and rearmed his men in Tarragona and set out with a small column to regroup his scattered units. The French army, aware of his movements, deployed around Valls.

Learning that Valls was occupied, Reding changed course towards Montblanc. After several days of skirmishes and maneuvers, and a difficult night march, his troops arrived near the Pont de Goi on the morning of February 25. The Battle of Valls began around 5:30 a.m.

The initial combat was intense. The Spanish attack was repelled, and after several hours of fighting, the arrival of the French Fontane brigade around noon shifted the battle’s momentum. Seeing the new enemy reinforcements, General Reding realized it was pointless to continue attacking and losing more men.

This is where the second phase of the battle begins, fought at the Pont de Goi. The Napoleonic objective is simple and direct: a decisive confrontation to annihilate the Spanish army before nightfall. For the Spanish, the mission is to survive, to wear down the enemy with minimal casualties, and to hold out until dusk to make a safe and orderly retreat.

This game presents an asymmetrical and dynamic challenge. The key is not just what actions you take, but the precise moment you execute them.

If you play as the Spanish, your goal is survival. Can you withstand the onslaught of the terrible French charge across the FrancolĂ river and escape with your army intact?l Duels” series, which will transport you through the most iconic campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars.

If you play as the French, your strategy must be aggressive and coordinated. Can you break through the Spanish defensive lines and achieve victory before nightfall?

P-300 New Game! 1806: The Elbe Campaign

We’re thrilled to officially unveil a new prototype from Santiago González: our very first Napoleonic game for the Neva Wargames P-300 System! This is a period we’ve been eager to explore, and we’ve finally found the perfect match. We initially announced this exciting new title, “1806: The Elbe Campaign,” at the Vassal Forever 2025 wargaming convention on June 8th, where it generated significant buzz as our new “Skirmish” title.

This game is incredibly compact yet packed with fascinating strategic depth. We’ve poured a lot into making it a truly engaging experience. Dive in below for more details, and if you’re as excited as we are to see “1806: The Elbe Campaign” on your table, don’t forget to wish-list it and help us reach that crucial 300 mark soon!

Relive Napoleon’s Masterpiece in “1806: The Elbe Campaign”
Get ready, wargamers! We’re thrilled to announce the latest addition to our P300 system at Neva Wargames: “1806: The Elbe Campaign.” This Napoleonic operational-level game for 2 players delivers an intense experience in up to 120 minutes.

The Stage is Set: A Clash of Empires
The year is 1806. The War of the Fourth Coalition has erupted, drawing Prussia into a desperate alliance with Russia, Saxony, Sweden, and the United Kingdom against Napoleon’s formidable First French Empire.

At this point, Napoleon’s Imperial Army was arguably at its peak. Forged in the fires of Ulm and Austerlitz, his veteran soldiers were a perfectly integrated and highly trained force. On the other side, the Prussian army, once legendary under Frederick the Great, was a shadow of its former self. Their soldiers were largely inexperienced, and even their commanders hadn’t seen battle in over a decade.

It’s said that during his visit to Frederick the Great’s tomb in Potsdam after Berlin fell, Napoleon remarked, “If this man were alive, I would not be here now.” This perfectly encapsulates how Bonaparte masterfully exploited the severe lack of effective leadership plaguing the Prussian forces.

Experience the Thrill of “1806: The Elbe Campaign”
“1806: The Elbe Campaign” plunges you into the initial, critical weeks of October 1806, culminating in the fall of Berlin. This operational-level game is designed for contained duration, offering a dynamic and succinct depiction of this pivotal conflict.

What makes this game truly exciting are its asymmetrical, sudden-death victory conditions. Every decision is critical, ensuring a consistently tense and vibrant experience:

• As the French, you must be aggressive, leveraging your superior mobility and leadership. But beware, early setbacks can crush your morale and decisively impact your campaign.
• As the Prussians, you command a numerically larger force with advantageous terrain, but you’re hampered by slowness and a lack of coordination. Your task is to maneuver wisely, delaying the French long enough for uncertain Russian reinforcements to arrive.

The game’s system emphasizes maneuverability and coordination over mere troop numbers, opening up a wide array of strategic options and providing excellent replayability. Plus, the crucial fog of war, vital for any Napoleonic game of this scale, is represented through simple, clear rules that deliver just the right amount of uncertainty about your enemy’s true intentions, especially in the crucial opening turns.

Can You Rewrite History?
Can you avoid Prussia’s devastating debacle and the fall of Berlin? Or will you emulate Napoleon’s military genius and bring Prussia to its knees?

“1806: The Elbe Campaign” is Volume I of our upcoming “Operational Duels” series, which will transport you through the most iconic campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars.

Wishlist “1806: The Elbe Campaign” today! We’re kicking off playtesting soon on our Discord server. If you’re interested in being one of the first to experience the game and help shape its development, join our Discord community here and head over to the #1806 section to let us know!

Crete: Death From The Sky

“Crete: Death From The Sky” by Juan Carlos Pastrana has been declared the winner of our first prototype contest held during the recent MdG Online Wargame Convention.

We congratulate Juan Carlos on this fantastic achievement!

To all aspiring game designers: Keep an eye out for our next prototype contest, which we may be repeating in the coming year.

🟦CONTEMPORARY | STRATEGIC | 1-2 PLAYERS  | DURATION 60-90′ GAME DESIGN: JUAN CARLOS PASTRANA

The Battle of Crete was a turning point. The Germans, shocked by their heavy losses, limited the use of their paratroopers to conventional infantry roles. In contrast, the Allies, recognizing the potential of these troops, integrated them into their airborne forces for future operations like Overlord or Market Garden. In this wargame, you’ll face critical decisions.

As the Axis, you must carefully select your initial targets, exploiting the element of surprise to secure airfields and ports. Effective deployment will allow you to receive reinforcements and consolidate your control over the island, preventing the Allied troops from escaping to Egypt.

As the Allies, your mission is to defend key points with tenacity, using your best units to launch counterattacks and slow down the enemy advance. Even if you lose Crete, you still have a chance to achieve victory by evacuating troops to Egypt and inflicting heavy losses on the enemy.

Can the Axis conquer Crete without sacrificing their valuable paratrooper division? Or will the Allies manage to resist and change the course of the war?

Cid Campeador: Warlord

A new game by José Manuel Neva. Immerse yourself in the epic saga of El Cid and experience Moorish Spain during his legendary exploits.

🟩 MEDIEVAL | STRATEGIC | 1-4 PLAYERS | DURATION 180-300′
GAME DESIGN: JOSE MANUEL NEVA

Cid Campeador: Warlord is a strategic-level wargame set in the tumultuous Moorish Spain of the late 11th century. Players step into the shoes of iconic figures from the era, vying for supremacy on the Iberian Peninsula. The game spans the dramatic 15 years from 1085 to 1099, a period marked by El Cid’s exile, the expansion of Christian kingdoms, and the growing influence of the Almoravids.

Four asymmetric factions offer distinct gameplay experiences:

– El Cid Campeador: A formidable warlord, free to offer his services to the highest bidder, influencing the course of the conflict.
– Christian Kingdoms: Expanding northward from the peninsula, conquering Taifa territories.
– Taifa Kingdoms: Struggling to maintain independence amid internal strife and external threats.
– Almoravids: Invading from North Africa, aiming to conquer the southern regions.

Cards are the game’s lifeblood, granting players initiative, operation points, and the ability to trigger game-changing events. Treasure, acquired through conquest and plunder, provides additional benefits. Player interaction is intense, with strategic alliances, betrayals, and direct confrontations shaping the outcome. Fate cards add an element of chance and unpredictability.

While designed for four players, Cid Campeador: Warlord can be enjoyed with fewer. The AI takes control of absent factions, ensuring a challenging experience for solo or two-player games.

Victory is determined by accumulating the most victory points, earned through territorial conquest, strategic objectives, and controlling key locations.

Game Turn Structure:

1 Administrative Phase: Manage internal affairs and prepare for the turn.
2 Diplomatic Phase: Form alliances, declare war, and negotiate treaties.
3 Initiative Phase: Determine the order of player actions.
4 Action Phase: Execute military campaigns, develop territories, and play cards.
5 Maintenance Phase: Manage resources, replenish forces, and prepare for the next turn.

Experience the epic struggles of medieval Spain in Cid Campeador: Warlord.

We will be providing regular updates on the progress of these two exciting new game additions in our monthly newsletters.

Don’t forget to book the games you’re interested in through our Incoming! system.

Kursk: Playtesting Update (3)

In a new playtesting update, game developer Jack Polonka dives into a different scenario for Kursk.

“ACHTUNG! ACHTUNG! All you PANZERWAFFE dierollers of the Prokhorovka sector. The Assault continues with Neva’s upcoming Kursk, but it’s now July 11th (the day before) with Adolf’s Liebstandard Home Boys coming onto the map to clear it of the Red Army menace! All looks straight forward initially till The Anti Tank Ditch is reached. That is where the real fun/struggle begins. See the post picture, which is end of turn 3 of a 7 turns (or 8 turns…remember this is still a playtest….) game. Progress is being made on the flanks and the 1st Liebstandard Regiment is delpoyed for the assault on the main Ditch defense line. Who will win will depend on who has the last remaining reserves or reinforcements to throw into battle, a la Napoleon…. The situation sits on a fulcrum…. and the weather, which will bog things down, does not help either!

The photo in the comments page is the end game turn (turn 7) with the Liebstandard Home Boys in control of the ditch but not much else North of it….with additional objective victory hexes still in Red Army’s hands…. Two consecutive turns of down pouring rain mired operations.

More playtesting to be done now with new playtest reinforcments from our España compatriots! (From the Spanish Blue Division?)

Till then, Marche Forward!!”

We’re thrilled to announce that the Vassal Module for Kursk is nearing completion.

Kursk: Playtesting Update (2)

Jack Polonka (game developer) is back with an update:

Playtesting is still ongoing for Kursk and it’s shaping up to be a historically accurate bloodbath, just like the real battle. By the end of turn two, the playtest map is littered with casualties, especially for the Red Army, mirroring the historical toll they suffered.

The 18th Tank Corps, supported by two Red Army infantry divisions, overwhelmed the Aufklärungs Abteilungen. A counter-attack with Tiger tanks helped stabilize the situation, but only just. Just as it happened historically, the anti-tank ditch manned by German forces served as a crucial defensive line, stemming the tide of the Soviet assault.

This is shaping up to be a fun and strategically challenging game that stays true to history. The game has been expanded to include the earlier engagement on July 11th, where the Liebstandarte division launches a fierce attack and nearly captures the town of Prokhorovka.

Take a look at the new prototype counters we are preparing. Vassal Module for playtesting is comming up soon…

🟦CONTEMPORARY | OPERATIONAL | 1-2 PLAYERS  | DURATION 180-240′
GAME DESIGN: JESÚS PÉREZ

Immerse yourself in the heart of the Spanish Civil War with Jarama: The Battle For Madrid, a captivating two-player simulation game that recreates the pivotal Battle of Jarama. This operational showdown pits the Nationalist forces, led by General Varela, against the determined Republican defenders, as they clash in a desperate struggle for control of Madrid.

The Battle of Jarama, fought from February 6 to 27, 1937, marked the third and bloodiest attempt by the Nationalists to capture Madrid, the heart of the Republican resistance. As the Nationalists sought to sever Madrid’s lifeline to the Mediterranean port of Valencia, the Republicans stood firm, determined to protect their capital and the cause of the Republic.

In Jarama, each player assumes the command of either the Nationalist or Republican forces, maneuvering their troops across the battlefield in a tactical dance of conquest and defense. The game utilizes a very particular chit-activation system, ensuring that each decision carries weight and every move has the potential to alter the course of the battle. The chit-activation systems makes this game suitable to be played solo by playing both sides of the conflict.

As the Nationalist player, your primary objective is to cut off the Valencia road, effectively isolating Madrid and crippling the Republican war effort. To achieve this, you must skillfully employ your forces, utilizing their strengths and exploiting enemy weaknesses. Seize historical key cities and hills along the way, for they will not only bolster your strategic position but also provide valuable victory points.

If you command the Republican forces, your mission is to halt the Nationalist advance, protect the vital Valencia road, and ultimately launch a counteroffensive to push the enemy back to their starting positions. This will require unwavering resilience, strategic planning, and the ability to adapt to the ever-changing tides of battle.

ACHTUNG! ACHTUNG! All you PANZERWAFFE die-roller dudes (or Red Army aficionados, if your orientation is that way) of the OSTFRONT!

We are heading back to the battlefields of Prokhorovka that we all know and love…In this new game in playtest: KURSK: ROMISTROV’S OFFENSIVE (aka Red Storm/Assault at Prokhorovka: 5th Guard Tank Army ATTACKS! July 12th, 1943).

It’s a close operational-level game where the map scale is 350 yards per hex, the Waffen-SS is at company level, and the Red Army is at the battalion level, with the AFVs being companies. The game covers in decent historical detail the battle where Adolf’s Liebstandarte Home Boys ALMOST got ploughed by the Red Army Comrades of the 5th Guard Tank Army looking for some payback… (some Liebstandarte battalions, like the Aufklärungs Abteilungen, did get overrun while others, including Jochen Peiper’s unit, almost did).

Picture is of the playtest game at the start of turn 1.

The Russian 18th and 29th Tank Corps have been beaten back, but they are not defeated. Replenished with tanks, they will be the sledgehammer in their only planned counterattack. This has to work! It cannot fail!

Both enemies planned their offensives to begin on July 12th, but neither side is aware of the other’s plan. As dawn breaks, the roar of over 300 tanks signals the coming clash.

Now, YOU are in control. YOU are in command! How will your strategy succeed or will it fail in WW2’s greatest, epic, tank battle that history still talks about?
